Overheard in the cornfield today:

1. "Are you making an island?" "Yes. What else would I be doing?"
2. "You know, they sing classic metal stuff like about killing orks."

Also: I'm going to netflix Tron right now. Am I cool?

Personally I think Tron belongs in the memory. i watched it a few years ago & sorta wish I hadn't.

Mathias is right but for completely the opposite reason: Tron belongs in the memory like a feverish, everpresent waking dream.

be careful. It's kind of like an ex-girlfriend. Your idealised memory of the movie, like the ex, is probably better than the movie. If the movie does hold up to the test of time let me know so I can take the geeky tour down memory lane myself.

There is one scene in Tron where David Warner tells the super computer to not forget that he created it. The computer replies that its intelligence and knowledge had increased 218 times since it began operating and that dude should know his place. Just like those Arnuld Terminators and George A. Romero's zombies, that computer is humanity's child, and its got Oedipal slaying on its mind. Thank God for Bruce Boxleitner and his glowing frisbee disc skills.

But as a film, Tron is a sort of genetic dead end. But there was nothing ever like it before or since. It's definitely worth checking out as a curiosity. If they made it today, they'd probably have Hugh Jackman in the lead role, and it would be the best thing he ever did besides Wolverine and all those musicals he likes to dance around in.
